Driving Education: Key to More Safe Driving
![]() People love driving. Some people drive for it is necessary. Some drives for it is their habit and it makes them relaxed. Some people drive for enjoyment. Some people drive for it is their passion, but most of the cases, people drive for it is necessary and needed. Driving is a controlled operation of a vehicle, usually a motor vehicle such as bus, motorcycle, truck, and of course car. It includes knowing how to operate the mechanism, which controls the speed, direction and brakes of the vehicle, safely. In terms of the basic physical tasks required, driving a motor vehicle generally involves starting the vehicles engine with the starting system, setting the transmission to the correct gear, depressing the pedals with one’s feet to accelerate and slow the vehicle, steering the vehicles direction with the steering wheel. It also requires operating other important ancillary devices like the headlights and windshield wipers and watching the road conditions in all directions around the vehicle to monitor the relative location of other vehicle, bicyclists and pedestrians. Driving is more than pressing pedals and turning the steering wheel. Driving also involves looking out for everyone else on the road. The skill of safe driving is necessary to avoid collisions, which kill many thousands of people. Safe driving is much more than following the legally prescribed rules of the road. It goes beyond that into the cultivation of good habits, maintaining attention and a thoughtful, cooperative attitude that avoids and prevents accidents. In order to know driving and the things that are include into it, it is necessary to have driver’s education. In high schools, there is a driver’s education class offered that teaches students driving and road safety. Students take the class to learn how to drive so that they can get necessary license on driving. Other way of learning how to drive is through the driving education programs. Driver education program designed to teach new drivers the fundamental skills and basic knowledge about driving a motor vehicle. Driver education programs are required to use the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety- approved standardized curriculum with Department of Motor Vehicle Safety licensed instructors. Driver education program consists of thirty hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. Young drivers may qualify for a driver’s license but they are still learning to drive. They tent to overestimate their abilities behind the wheel. Scare tactics and lectures do not work with young drivers, but supervising their practice driving over longer learning period does. This is where parents play a critical role. Driver education teaches the fundamental skills and knowledge. Parents, guardians and supervising drivers must do the rest. While young drivers benefit from driver education programs, they are much benefited by the wisdom and guidance of their parents, guardians and supervising drivers. Parents, guardians and supervising drivers are the best person to teach young drivers to accept their driving responsibilities. Good judgment only comes from experience. The goal of the driver education program is to successfully provide students with the skills, knowledge, motivation and insight needed to become responsible and safe drivers. Driver education can be obtained from different public driver training centers. Many private institutions also offer driver education. Since the world is already governed by the cyber technology, there are also on line driver education programs. Driver education is necessary.
